Role of fiberoptic bronchoscopy in early diagnosis of non-resolving pneumonia

Non-resolving pneumonia are not so infrequent with a clinical scenario where multiple diagnostic modalities required to arrive at diagnosis. We aimed assess the role of fiberoptic bronchoscopy in early diagnosis non-resolving pneumonia. This is prospective observational study done department pulmonary medicine from January 2020 December 2020. 90 cases attending medicine, AMC were selected after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. These subjected fiber optic bronchoscopy. BAL, bronchial brushings washings collected analyzed. Among studied, 50 60 years age group commonly affected accounting 33%. Male predominance was observed 73.3%. Smoking common observation 51%. Bacterial pneumonias found be commonest etiology followed by tuberculosis, bronchogenic carcinoma fungal infection 46.6%; 22.2%; 17.7%; 1.1% respectively. Diagnosis indeterminate 12.2% cases. Fiberoptic an excellent aid thus enabling differentiate bacterial as well tuberculosis. It also helps rule out carcinoma.
